Ailanthus Day is my first solo exhibition shown at Kav 16 Gallery in Tel-Aviv, Israel (curatorial accompaniment: Daniel Oxenberg)
The ailanthus is a tree that was brought to Israel as an ornamental plant but quickly turned into an invasive and harmful species—even though its nickname is “Tree of Heaven.” I first got to know it while working in gardening, and since then, I’ve encountered it in all kinds of strange situations in my life—almost always at moments where the relationship between people and the tree reaches a point of conflict.
The works in the exhibition draw inspiration from these kinds of conflicts. They deal with romantic relationships, childhood, and war, and in one way or another, try to understand where good ends and bad begins—and vice versa. The exhibition features prints, wooden forms, climbing ropes, and worn-out soda cans.
